Carpet isn't crazy at all. I have carpet in 90% of my shop and I love it. I picked up a vacuum cleaner from someones trash pile and it works fine with a new belt. Quiet, warm, comfy, easy to clean up dust.

In what part of Toledo will your new house be? OWE? South End?

Congrats! Half a year ago I removed the carpet from my shop – but of course it was just regular living room carpet. I can see well chosen carpet for a shop that has great dust extraction. But me myself I'm happy with just the concrete. Maybe in the long run I might change my opinion on that. I hope your coffin house is going to be all you ever dreamt of and more! Cheers!

Really happy for you, can't wait to see the new shop come about. Carpet in the shop? As a wise man once said (Bob Ross) it's your world do what you want.

Mr. Picciuto I am sorry but I have to stop listening to your videos in the car while I'm driving. I know I know I know that's not a safe!!! Your videos are all about having fun and they make me laugh and it's hard to drive while I am teared up from laughing so hard. Good luck with the move and can't wait for carpet in the shop. Do what you want it is your shop!!!

I think you need Bob's hat. The tree on it is almost as pretty as your air freshener tree.

Great idea on the carpet. I have back problems, too so I'm looking forward to see how you get this setup. Are you going to put in extra spongy padding under the carpet?

    May 30, 2017 at 7:11 pm

Copycat! Seriously, I'm excited to see what you come up with. I'm moving this summer too and I'm really looking forward to the new adventures with my kids.

I like the carpet idea. I have been using those rubber mats that look like puzzle pieces from harbor freight and they work great. But, I like your carpet idea better.

David, instead of putting down carpet have you thought about putting down sleepers and plywood on the floor… theres a lot of benefits to doing this.. its much softer than carpet on concrete, you can run electric and dust collection thru the floor easily, and you can put insulation in the floor if you want as well…

I love the idea of a "coffin house" totally changed my thoughts when looking for my next house.

On the garage door, if you have more than one door, I suggest you consider leaving one in place. Not for frequent use, but for the occasional bringing in of big toys!

Also, check out recycled rubber flooring as a cleaner carpet alternative. My undergrad research lab used it, and it was great. Cushiony and bouncy as hell (a buddy dropped his phone once and it tumbled end over end all the way across the room, probably about 30 foot), and comes in plenty of awesome colors. Ours was installed as roll, like carpet, but I know it can be installed as large tiles too.

    Either way, you do you!

I know it's a little more pricey and someone may have said it already, but why not a foam or rubber floor like a fitness room? Easier to clean up dust. Good luck with the new house and shop!

First thing: awesome, congrats, sounds like the perfect spot! The only concern I'd have with closing off the garage door is the ability to move BIG things in and out. Big tools, big art pieces, etc… just saying, maybe don't be hasty with sealing off that garage door.

Good luck with the move. Condolences on the loss of your father. Regarding the carpet… it's your shop. If someone doesn't like it, oh well. You were one of the first people I found in the maker space. Keep it up!

Skip the carpet use these http://www.homedepot.com/p/Buffalo-Tools-3-ft-x-3-ft-Interlocking-Rubber-Mats-4-Pack-801446/206403604 . I have them in my shop and they work great to stand on, control the sawdust on the floor, sound absorption, etc.

Noting my disgust at carpet in your shop… I use cast off pieces of carpet so I can shake out the saw dust once in a while… but I'm still disgusted about your decision! Unsubscribe! (joking)

I wore my Drunken Woodworker shirt the other day and was just thinking how I missed the wrap-up and review. So glad makers and shakers brings that back. It's ok that coffee is added to the "what am I drinking today." Thanks for bringing this back.
