Instead of the binding clips you could glue magnetic strips on both sides of the metal frame. It would look much better and I think it would work much better as well! 🙂

I'm not sure I understand why someone would want this? Can you explain why you would want this plastic around an object?

Tools storage drawer inserts: I'd use it to make moulds of tool shapes, than those moulds can be glued upside down to the board with added walls all around. Then we can fill it up with expansion foam, which after setting up and removing moulds would create a drawer insert for storing tools. 🙂

One thing that occurred to me as I watched was that if you put handle tabs on both frames, the handles could be the clamping mechanism instead of the binder clips.

As an electrician I cringe when I see DIY's mod electrical devices. While watching this vid, I…cringed, but thankfully you follow it immediately with words of caution and WHY to be cautious. Thank you very much for keeping viewers informed and safe!

I really liked this project. For nothing more that a "cool factor", add a limit switch to the upper portion of the form that turns the vacuum on when you release the frame from the magnets 🙂

I'm pretty sure AvE sorted out that the shield will still block all the harmful UV (or was it IR?) light even if it doesn't darken. So sun glasses + broken auto welding helmet and your all set.

a heater placed like this should not be left unattended, heat travels "up" and keep in it in this direction will cause to much heat where it shouldnt be that hot and is a fire hazard, however keeping it superviced and not having it on for long periods of time it shouldn't be a problem.

Have you thought about using the machine for blowing shapes too? I have made plastic domes this way; by placing a steel sheet with a hole in it on the vacuum surface, pulling the plastic over and – instead of using vacuum – using air to blow the plastic into shape. Might work if you use the air gun from your compressor instead of the shop vac. I used this tecnique to make two different size domes that could be used to cast a bowl/planter. By the way – I often resort to using my heat gun to soften the plastic. Could be a solution if you need to use the entire surface of your new machine.

The binder clips seem to be the biggest issue, use smaller clips that are only on the top
