Just a tip on spices and heat – it causes them to go bad more quickly, and they already go bad so quickly! It has to do with the breakdown of the compounds that give spices their flavor and potency. Just a thought for the next house 🙂

Many chefs choose to keep their spices & herbs away from direct heat as they'll degrade faster.

Hi Sharrah, I live on the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland, and I am a DOGWALKER [and dogminder, and I also look after cats in their own homes!] I 'mind' of dogs who are like Scout, as well as a few others, and usually walk about 12 dogs every day of the week!! Been watching you and your Mum on YouTube for several years [ since I found the Christmas Book Wreath Video] and am also signed up to the design sessions! Love what you are doing with Kinwoven!

I work in the electrical industry, fun tip You can actually go as high as you want in wattage with LED bulbs because you will never reach the 60W max cap. A 60W LED bulb is just the equivalent to a 60W incandescent/halogen bulb but only uses a fraction of the energy (it's really only 6watts). A 100W led equivalent LED bulb makes a huge difference

If you are using a new LED bulb it is “equivalent” to a 60W bulb in Lumens, but the Wattage is only about 14 Watts. New eco bulbs are colder for same lumens than old tungsten filament bulbs. So they don’t get hot, so go for it on your Lumens nowadays. Yay!

Having your spices near a heat source shortens their shelf life. I made that same mistake in my kitchen when I put them in a cupboard that had a light outside and just below the cupboard. One day I realized how hot the light was making that bottom shelf and moved them to a not lit cupboard. Thanks for most of your ideas Sharrah! You are one smart cookie and very funny.

In addition to the greasy mess left on whatever you put over the stove, I would think the heat from your stove would also degrade your spices faster.

How exactly does lining a shelf take away weird odors, and why would anyone put shelf liner on an upper shelf when no one can see it? Oh, I teach college students critical thinking.
