Good idea, bad design. The hairspray clearly was leaking out of the sliding doors that didn’t make a tight seal. That made it underpowered. I think with a few technical fixes like that, this Spud gun could be really cool.

You could improve fuel delivery by using a constant gas supply to all chambers.

Strange how underpowered it is. I made a gun with similar dimensions and it had far superior performance. I suspect it may be from leakage of fuel or they just didn't mix the fuel right.

Hey guys, I really doubt it, but if you actually monitor these comments, I was wondering what you made the gearing with. I have a similar project in store that needs some homemade gears with a pinion and a large secondary gear and was wondering what you used for your system. I don't think I need QUITE as large a secondary gear (if that's what you call it) as you have but I was curious none-the-less as to how you made your gears. If anyone else has some ideas I'm all ears. I make everything by hand and was considering hand grinding a big (about 16" diameter) secondary gear with some aluminum stock and my dremel. Of course this seems tedious and unnecessary, so if anyone has a better idea I'm all ears….

What a cool family project! I think this kind of making is all about learning–not actually about potato artillery. Ignore all the naysayers complaining about slow potatoes. All those crazy mechanical and electrical pieces work! I would be incredibly proud if I made this. Sure, they could spend 6 more months tweaking it but why bother? Move on to the next family project!

I bet 500 bucks that i could load and fire 7-8 shots with an old school potato gun before this thing could be loaded and successfully fired off. and i could run with mine.

Now I feel the need to produce a fully automatic potato cannon… Can we somehow get sponsors to turn this into a prize winning competition? Have to successfully fire 15 consecutive rounds. Judged on speed, accuracy, distance,

    aww man… don't submit a film with only 3 barrels going off…
Be proud enough of your project to make all 6 go off. Don't make us watch all that nonsense to see you sorta-kinda get it done.

It's funny how they slow motion the firing footage as though it was firing all that quickly to begin with…

Video was filmed with one of the potatoes.

I like it in a way and, I also don't like it in a way the reason I don't like it is cuz u shouldn't teach ur kids to use guns (it looks like a gun lol) that's just my opinion (I gotta prepare for the hates 😀

what a great thing to teach your kids …and they learned some math too AS WELL HOW TO PLAY WITH FIRE

  36. MrAssbole

    February 15, 2018 at 2:40 am

Great idea ,but it needs work. They seemed to have worked out major technical shit, but left the cannon weak. Probably the sliding doors are letting too much aqua net escape. Or maybe they need some paper wadding for a better seal. Either way I think this shit is awesome! I do the same shit with my kids. We've been trying a spring loaded clip design for our automatic cannon. We also build our own rockets .And we still have shit to work out. Great concept, great family. Keep it up.
